Acunu is reengineering the Linux storage stack from the ground-up for Big Data applications. The 1980s assumptions that many of today's databases and file systems rely on are no longer appropriate for modern machine architectures, storage technology and Big Data applications. The Acunu Storage Platform combines an open, fast, flexible in-kernel storage engine based on patented algorithms along with a powerful management stack and web interface for scale-out deployment and cluster management. The first deployment of the storage platform will be used to power Cassandra and an S3-compatible store.

Acunu was founded in 2009 and is backed by some of Europe's top VC funds. Acunu was founded in 2009 by ex-Cambridge PhD students who wanted to rewrite the Linux storage stack for the Big Data applications of 2010 such as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare etc. The 1980s assumptions that many of today's file systems are built on are no longer appropriate for today's machine architectures, storage technology and applications.

18 months later, we have a world-class engineering team of 15 including 6 PhDs in Maths and Computer Science. Our engineers have worked on projects such as Xen, ZFS, VxFS and at international research labs. We're based in Central London (Angel) and backed by some of Europe's top VC funds. We pride ourselves on being a startup that does both world-class research (we publish and patent) and real-world product engineering.

Our offices are based on the banks of Regent's canal near Old Street and Angel and we are surrounded by excellent venues for lunch, dinner and evening drinks. Our office is open plan, has big windows, high ceilings, a decent coffee machine and the peace and quiet to concentrate. We have a roof terrace and organic vegetable patch and encourage those with green fingers to get involved and London weather permitting we have the odd BBQ.

We are a young and social company and organise regular events from nights playing the wii to curries and go-karting. We have a relaxed and informal atmosphere, you won't be expected to wear a shirt and tie.
