AppSpark

AppSpark is changing the way you get food recommendations. With a focus on mobile, AppSpark is developing a new service that will allow you find the best dishes to eat near you.

AppSpark was founded in late 2008 by Kavin Bharti Mittal and Namit Chadha in their final year of a Masters at University to explore the possibilites in the mobile space.

In May 2009, AppSpark launched Movies Now in partnership with movietickets.com, an iPhone application that allowed users to buy movie tickets on the go. AppSpark launched a sequel - Movies Now HD in 2010 and together both applications have been downloaded just under 150,000 times. Movies Now HD was featured on the App Store as 'One of the 10 Essential Movie Goer Apps'. Since its inception, Movies Now has risen to the Top Charts and has also been featured in many prominent online and offline publications such as the The Sunday Times, Gizmodo, Smoking Apples, CNet and plenty more.

In December 2010, AppSpark decided to pivot and re-focus its efforts on a completely untapped and exciting space - food recommendations.

AppSpark is well funded and is at a very early stage in its new venture. With a small but very smart, ambitious and talented team of 4, AppSpark hopes to pioneer the food recommendations space with its new service called 'bonapp'. It is currently being developed and will be launched in Beta within the next few months.

The team:

- Kavin Bharti Mittal (Founder & CEO): Graduated from Imperial College London in 2009 with Masters in EEE with Management (MEng). Previously interned at McLaren Racing, Google, Goldman Sachs & Airtel. Loves the outdoors and when he's not working or immersed in the world of tech he's out playing cricket or tennis. Loves to fly and has completed 15 hours in a single engined Piper hoping to get his Pilots License by the end of this year! Has a genuine passion for great UI. Always carries 2 if not 3 smartphones with him. Never seen without his white iPhone 4 and Nexus S.

- Namit Chadha (Co-Founder & CTO): Graduated from Imperial College, London in 2009 with a Masters in Computing (MEng). While at Imperial College Namit has gained experience in mobile software development on the iPhone & Android OS. Also spent time learning programming languages optimised for multi-core processors. Worked at Goldman Sachs as a Programmer Analyst from July 2009 to April 2010 following a 6-month intership there in 2008 after which he joined AppSpark full-time as the company’s CTO.

- Karan Chadha (Co-Founded & CFO): Graduated from University of Nottingham, UK with a Bachelors in Economics in 2008. Spent the last 1.5 years working at one of India’s leading Boutique Investment Bank in Mumbai, working across a spectrum of sectors including Infrastructure, Logistics, Real Estate and Manufacturing.  Thrives on challenges with an ability to adapt to different global environments. Art lover and collector, passion for cars (Dream car = McLaren F1 GTR) and loves investing in the stock market!

- Barnaby Malet (Lead Software Engineer): Graduated from Imperial College, London with a Masters in Artificial Intelligence (MEng) in 2009. Spent 6 months interning at Morgan Stanley and won the Microsoft Research prize for his work on distributed web crawling.  Spent a summer at Apple doing quantitative analysis on retail data before returning to Imperial to pursue a PhD in large scale distributed systems. Joined AppSpark in 2010 bringing with him solid research and engineering skills.
Keen traveller, having visited nearly every continent, enjoys interacting with other cultures and learning new languages. Also enjoys winter sports such as skiing and sometimes tumbling down a piste backwards with a snowboard attached to his feet (He still hasn't got the hang of turning yet).

As an early stage start-up, the atmosphere at AppSpark is just fantastic. Our office is located in the heart of London, just off Grosvenor Square, is pretty chilled out and always well stocked in coffee! Conveniently located near some great bars we’re always up for grabbing a beer or two after work.
