Engine Room Apps

What we do

In short, we create mobile apps. We ask clients to explain their ideas and goals, and we design and build something that ticks the boxes for them. It's lots of fun!

Our apps can vary in size and complexity. Some apps have just a few simple screens, perhaps designed to help a company market themselves. Others might be enterprise-scale, high-traffic client/server solutions with tons of functionality. The variation makes Engine Room Apps an interesting office to work in!

Each project involves some key steps: Listening to customers. Brainstorming concepts. Designing sexy UI. Coding iOS, Android and Mobile Web apps. Delivering on time and to expectations. Being agile.

History & Team

Engine Room Apps is just over a year old. We knew that iPhone was a game changer, and find it a lot of fun to develop for. Over the year we grew from 3 to 8 people, and we're still growing.

Our team includes designers, developers, entrepreneurs and evangelists. We take a serious but relaxed attitude to work, we want to have fun but also to be productive and output incredibly high quality work.

Tobin Harris and Chris Baxter are the directors, both having a fairly extensive software consultancy background. Lee Somerville is our key business evangelist and client facing person.

We have two designers, two iOS developers, and Android developer and two server-side Ruby on Rails developers.

A Look Inside

Our Culture

Our team is based in Leeds, UK. We're small enough to all share a modest office space in city center. It is a great office in a great spot; surrounded by cafes, bars and other creative companies. Most of us are in the office all week, although sometimes people work from home. One of our members is based in Brazil.
