What we do

Seesmic is the gateway to all your social services, no matter what platform you’re on at any moment. With several products covering desktop, web and mobile, Seesmic helps you build your community and manage your online presence.

History & Team

Seesmic opened its doors on October 1st 2007 as a video conversation site. Founder Loic Le Meur hosted a daily show titled Seesmic du Jour where he showed the life of a CEO in a silicon valley startup.

In April of 2008, Seesmic acquired Twhirl, a desktop Twitter client with the intentions of integrating Seesmic video content with Twitter. Through progressive iterations of Twhirl, the opportunity to build communities through solely sharing video content expanded to enabling users to build their community through other social networks.

In March of 2009, Seesmic launched a scalable new product called Seesmic Desktop, which integrates both Twitter and Facebook. Seesmic Desktop has also integrated several tools and services from URL shorteners to image-sharing services. Seesmic Desktop allows you to manage several Twitter accounts, build groups (Userlists), create saved searches and utilize an anti-spam tool. This fully integrated tool, described as a “Bloomberg of Social Media”, Seesmic Desktop now allows users to help “Build Your Community,” which is currently Seesmic’s tagline.

In July of 2009, Seesmic launched the preview version of Seesmic Web, a web based version that allows you to: manage your Twitter stream in a Gmail-like interface; save your Twitter searches synchronized with your Twitter account; and hold threaded conversations in your direct messages (DM’s). Because it is browser-based, Seesmic Web allows you to manage your community in any web platform.

In April of 2010, Seesmic launched a preview release of Seesmic Desktop 2 (SD2). Based on Silverlight 4's powerful development platform, SD2 supports a plugin environment which lets you customize the client to fit your needs. Within the new platform, every feature, tool and social service (including Twitter and Facebook) can be integrated as a "plugin" within the application, which opens the platform to allow for complete social support. Included in the SD2 preview release was Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, LinkedIn, Social Wok and a number of cool features.

In May of 2010, Seesmic released its first generation of the iPhone app -featured in the App Store - allowing users to update and view multiple social networks in one efficient and powerful application customized to your needs. Seesmic also offers a Blackberry and an Android app, which is one of Gizmodo's top 10 Best android apps.
