Talis has a history going back over 40 years – making us one of the oldest software companies in the world.

In the late 1960s, a small group of libraries formed a cooperative project to develop shared services - this was BLCMP. Over time this developed into a shared electronic database of bibliographic records which formed the basis of catalogue records. Long before the advent of the internet, the company that later became Talis was sharing and connecting data. The project developed into a suite of applications and services that continue to underpin the library operations of over a quarter of the UK’s public and academic libraries.

However, we’ve continued to evolve, and we’re now a group of technology companies serving several diverse sectors. The outcome is an organization that embraces emerging technologies and open standards to ensure we can deliver another 40 years of innovation.
