What we do

mediawasp is a community of social media enabled newsrooms where PR agencies provide journalists with downloadable up to the minute news and press information from a highly visible online library . It is designed to help PR agencies make better use of the internet by positioning an organisation'd press materials online and for journalists to be able to access this information in a way that works for them.

Each company or brand have their own dedicated newsroom that is extremely simple to update, customise and manage. It will host news bulletins, press releases, images and video. From this newsroom social media can also be updated and journalists can search by topic to find companies and spokespeople and be updated or 'follow' a particular company or event.
mediawasp connects PRs with journalists more effectively than ever before. It transforms the way in which press information is accessed displayed, and shared. mediawasp is the link that journalists and PRs need as information moves increasingly online.

The newsroom features:

• Journalist friendly company information
• Contact and spokesperson information
• Daily news feed Press release archive
• Press ready image and photo archive
• Press ready video archive
• Press & Company contact information
• Journalist direct request for information facility
• Social media update facility to send press information across social media sites
• ‘Follow-me’ options so journalists can get updates on any company or topic
• External links to any other company related sites
• Business network information so journalists can see how companies and brands are connected

History & Team

The idea for mediawasp came about as Jasper Rosenau, then Creative Director at a central London PR agency, observed the amount of time being wasted going back and forth on email to journalists trying to get the right information, picture angle or image across. He was aware of the headaches involved for both parties when sending files that crashed systems and took ages to arrive and was frustrated with the amount of time his colleagues spent doing this rather than using their skills as PR specialists.

Although press pages within websites had gone some way to using the internet to transmit this information they were not always easy to find or universally easy to use. Rarely do they include properly labeled searchable archives of relevant press information.

The solution - The mediawasp newsroom

By creating a central point on the internet for sharing press materials, all sorts of opportunities for improving communication between the PR industry and the media arose.

All materials can be put in a highly accessible library, it can be branded, information searches and updating social media can become much easier. Since SEO is key in internet marketing, getting searchable information off hard drives and on to the internet was crucial.

The mediawasp newsrooms will continue to develop and grow to stay in line with new technologies and reflect the relationship between PR and the media.

The newsrooms are free for journalists to use and we have consulted with both PR professionals and journalists in developing the service. We will always be open to hearing views and ideas to make this form of information sharing work in absolutely the best possible way.
